TORONTO, ON (November 3, 2026) – Building on Toronto’s growing enthusiasm for sport and the need for more places to play, Field Recreation Inc. is investing in the future of recreation with the development of The Sports Complex at YZD, a new year-round sports destination opening this winter that will provide much-needed indoor and outdoor space for athletes, families, schools and community organizations across Toronto.
Developed and operated by Field Recreation Inc. in partnership with Premier Racquet Clubs, North Toronto Soccer, Community Sports Partners, JAM Sports, and SportStars, The Sports Complex at YZD will become one of the city's most comprehensive multi-sport facilities.
Spanning more than 200,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor sports and recreation space, The Sports Complex at YZD will feature two full-size soccer fields, and a 50,000-square-foot racquet sports facility, and one of Canada's largest dedicated padel destinations. The facility will serve everyone from first-time players and recreational users to competitive athletes, sports organizations, schools and community groups.
The facility is designed to meet growing demand for high-quality sports infrastructure in this part of Toronto, just north of the 401 and Yorkdale Shopping Centre, while creating a year-round hub for competition, training, recreation and community play.
"Across Toronto, demand for sports fields and court space continues to outpace supply," said Robert Ortali, Founder, Field Recreation Inc. "At Field Recreation, we believe in building active communities together. The Sports Complex at YZD was designed to help address the growing need for sports infrastructure while creating a place where people can connect, compete, stay active and belong."
The project also represents a significant investment in Ontario businesses and trades. Nearly every construction component, from site preparation and engineering to concrete, landscaping, steel, electrical, and building materials, is being sourced from Ontario-based companies and suppliers. The only major component sourced outside the province is the professional-grade soccer turf, supplied from Dalton, Georgia, one of the world's leading producers of elite soccer surfaces.
As Toronto continues to grow, The Sports Complex at YZD demonstrates how private investment can help address increasing demand for recreation infrastructure while supporting local jobs, businesses and communities.
SOCCER
The soccer facilities will include:
“This is a landmark moment for North Toronto Soccer,” said Kenrick Sylvestre, President of North Toronto Soccer. “The Sports Complex at YZD will give our players access to modern, high-quality facilities while helping us expand opportunities for youth at every level. From grassroots and recreational play to All-Abilities programming and high-performance competition, this new facility will help us break down barriers to participation, build community and give more young people the opportunity to fall in love with the game.”
TENNIS & PICKLEBALL
Operated by Premier Racquet Clubs, the 50,000-square-foot racquet sports facility will include:
"Great clubs are built around people and community," said Karl Hale, Owner/Operator, Premier Racquet Clubs. "The Sports Complex at YZD allows us to create a year-round home for tennis and pickleball in this part of the city, one that combines exceptional facilities, professional coaching and programming, and a welcoming environment where players of all ages and skill levels can learn, improve and connect. We are excited to bring the Premier Racquet Clubs experience to this incredible new facility."
COMMUNITY FIRST
The facility will operate seven days a week. Ample affordable on-site parking will be available for players, spectators, families and visitors.
As part of its commitment to community access, The Sports Complex at YZD will provide free community-use hours every week for local schools, youth organizations, seniors and community groups. Dedicated access hours will support organizations serving the surrounding Downsview community, including local schools such as Downsview Secondary School.
The facility will also become the new home for several leading sports organizations, including North Toronto Soccer (NTS), JAM Sports, one of North America's largest providers of adult recreational sports leagues , as well as Community Sports Partners, a multi-sport youth and adult sports brand, and SportStars, a top youth soccer club.
This new facility is located at YZD, the 370-acre former Downsview Airport lands. As the lead developer of the broader YZD redevelopment project, a multi-neighbourhood future new destination within Toronto, Northcrest Developments views The Sports Complex at YZD as an important component of its vision to create a series of complete communities where people can live, work, connect and play.
“One of the unique opportunities at YZD is to unveil attractions, amenities and activities in advance of the full redevelopment,” says Mitchell Marcus, Vice President of Place & Destination Development at Northcrest Developments. “Opening this sports complex will make visits to YZD an ongoing tradition for thousands of players of all-ages, pioneering the sense of activity, connection and community that will define YZD over time.”
The Sports Complex at YZD is being designed with seasonal maintenance and safety as priorities, including on-site management and security personnel, video monitoring systems, first aid resources, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and professional maintenance programs for all fields and courts.
